Iron Mules is a series of photographs taken in a small village deep in rural Russia. Life in this village is simple. There is no running water and the roads are not paved but are mere dirt tracks. It is not easy to reach this village by car, especially not after rainfall. The locals, therefore, use a motorbike with sidecar to transport their goods: livestock, members of their family, all kinds of material
The motorbike itself does not only tell a story of its own, but also the story of its owner: is he a careful driver? Where is he going to? What is his occupation? Each scratch and dent in the bike has a story to tell as well and the owners were most willing to tell them.
